Implied Premises

Some of the reasons (premises) that your opponents are relying on can be unstated or implied. These can be important or even crucial in refuting their arguments, so you need to be able to find them.  For example in the statement that "We should go to the movies because it would be fun", the conclusion is "We should go to the movies" and the reason is  "it would be fun". Aside from the stated reason,  there are a number of other implied reasons even with this simple argument, e.g we can afford to go to the movies, there are not other things that would be more fun, and we have the time to go to the movies. Obviously you won't deal with all of the implied reasons, but sometimes one or more of them can be the best way to refute an argument.
