ARC 

ARC stands for Assumptions, Requirements, and Consequences (you could use CAR as the acronym if that is easier). It is a way to come up with refutation to an argument. ARC helps you find unstated or hidden premises, i.e. reasons that need to be true for the argument to stand but ones that have not been stated.

Assumptions: What assumptions does the argument make?

Requirements: What is required for the argument to be true

Consequences: if we accept the argument, what else does that mean /lead to?  It is a version of argument by acceptance.

Exercises:

1. We should have more physical ed classes to fight obesity

2. COVID is not real

3. Trump won the election but the results were altered/flawed

4. The CIA carried out 9/11

5. The US never landed on the moon

6. The COVID vaccine includes microchips – source the internet

7. Gerrymandering the major cause of polarization in US political system

8. You should not have the vaccine because of the possible side-effects

9. Canada should not build the oil pipeline from Alberta to Vancouver because it might hurt the environment
